Being Creative
I never thought I could write a fictional story, it seemed like hard work to me. I am used to writing non-fiction and poetry. I am not sure that I am a typical writer as I cannot sit everyday to write, if I did I would be staring at the computer for hours on end with nothing to show for it. I can only write when the words come to me, which can be months apart and typically come when I least want or expect them to come such as in bed at night while I am trying to sleep, in the shower or whenever my mind is less busy which is not often.
Recently my publisher asked me a question, which was, did I think I could write an epic poem. Firstly I had no real idea what one was and when I did some research I literally thought "I dont think so", I wouldn't know where to start. Also there was no guarentee that it would get published.
I think a day or two after the question had been asked I got the name for a character and a very small inkling of a possible story. I was amazed. I hesitently started to write and found it difficult as epic poems rhyme, well mostly they do but not always.
I nearly gave up several times but each time I did I would get a little bit more of the story. I then became intrigued as to where this story would lead me and the characters. I got the bare bones of the story then the rest came, yes it came while I was trying to get to sleep.
Unbelievably I had written the story within around three weeks and felt so relieved that the story was out, it was a difficult birth. Then the submission and finally the acceptance.
What did I learn from this experience: that I can write fiction and make it intersting, that my creativity has opened up into the world of fantasy that I havent really seen since being a young girl, and that is a long time ago. I feel like my mind has expanded into a world of "I can" rather than "I cannot".
I now have begun to think of short stories that I can write so the floodgates have been opened. I am thrilled that my epic poem which is called The Woods is now released and available on amazon, published by Deep Read Press. It follows the story of Chandros who is called into the woods to help save them from an evil sorcerer.
Sometimes it takes another person who believes in your ability and talent to bring forth a creativity that has been hidden. So, be creative, every one has a talent that is unique to them, I hope you connect with yours and share it with the world.
